I currently work as a Senior Recovery Counselor at Trilogy, Inc, one of Chicago’s largest providers of mental health services to individuals living with homelessness, substance use, and poverty. After graduating with a major in History and minors in Archaeology and Religion, I worked in healthcare for several years and then earned a Masters of Divinity at Chicago Theological Seminary. I have also served as a contact chaplain at Rush University Medical Center and Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Saint Xavier University.
My history degree helped me hone skills and cultivate a perspective that transcends professional categories. When I research community resources for clients, I apply the same rigorous approach to research that I learned when reading historical texts and writing papers at ÃÛÌÒapp. When I counsel clients and build relationships with them, I draw on the empathic understanding and cultural awareness that ÃÛÌÒapp’s Archaeology semester in Jordan fostered. Studying history has helped me be a better recovery counselor by helping me to appreciate nuance and see how an individual’s story is intertwined with the broader socioeconomic, political, and environmental realities of our broken world.
